My fellow chefs and I came together for Summer by the Sea: The 29th Annual Chefs’ Tribute to Citymeals-on-Wheels on Monday June 9 under the stars at Rockefeller Center in NYC..
I am always honored to be asked to participate in this event for many reasons...the most important reason is that Citymeals-on-Wheels is a charity that is near and dear to my heart. The charity funds 33 community-based agencies that bring weekend, holiday and emergency meals to homebound elderly New Yorkers who can no longer shop or cook for themselves. As a native New Yorker and a chef, this cause hits close to home. It is my charity of choice and anytime I can help them raise money, I am there.
The theme this year was Summer by the Sea and each chef was asked to present their take on fruits de mer, barbeque or other seasonal fare. For me, the obvious choice was to serve a GATO favorite, Octopus Salad with Tangerine, Smoked Paprika, and Blistered Padron Pepper. I am happy to report it was a hit with the guests..
Smile and say octopus!
The iconic Rockefeller Center..I love New York!
The event on Monday night raised more than $820,000, or enough money to provide 127,000 meals to our elderly neighbors. Now that is awesome!
