Growing up, I got my first taste of pumpkin each year at the Thanksgiving table and not a moment before. I waited all year for my Mom’s famous pie to be served, my (rather large) slice piled high with freshly whipped cream. Fast forward many years later, and pumpkin spice flavored everything is everywhere!
Oreos even got into the act this year (an admission: I have single-handedly polished off three bags this fall). The most famous pumpkin-flavored item, however, is the pumpkin latte, found everywhere from fancy coffee shops to fast food chains. But here's a dirty secret: the pumpkin spice syrup usually used in these lattes contains artificial ingredients and no actual pumpkin! (And they're silly expensive, too!)
Determined to have a perfect pumpkin latte and drink it, too, I decided to come up with my own syrup to use whenever the mood struck me. My pumpkin latte syrup doesn’t only have to be used for coffee drinks. It is so good (if I may say so myself) that it can be drizzled over pancakes, Greek yogurt and even added to ice cream for the yummiest pumpkin spice milkshake ever.
It's the perfect thing to do with leftover pumpkin and spices from your holiday pumpkin pie-making...and is so easy to make that you may never feel the need to buy one of those expensive drinks again. Cheers!
