Before I was lucky enough to work out of Bobby’s office with my fellow B-Teamers, I was running the front door at his restaurant, Bar Americain, on West 52nd Street in New York City. I got to know the food really well, and of course had MANY favorite items on the Amercain brasserie-style menu. I often go back to eat those perfect mussels in a green chile broth (and will always order extra bread just for dipping), and the crab coconut cocktail. YUM! But I digress…Today I need to tell you about an incredible Bar Americain salad whose recipe I “stole” to contribute to my family Thanksgiving dinner last year.
BA's Chopped Apple Salad with Toasted Walnuts, Blue Cheese, and Pomegranate Vinaigrette couldn't have been more of a hit, and was literally demanded for this year as well. I will gladly oblige!
While it’s unfortunately not an item that can be enjoyed at Bar Americain today (I’d highly recommend the Heartland chopped salad for your next visit), I have good news… the recipe IS available in Bobby’s Bar Americain cookbook and right here on bobbyflay.com! My family found it to be a beautiful, crisp, refreshing addition to our holiday spread. It’s really simple to put together and the fruit, nut, cheese combination is just beyond satisfying… Plus it screams AUTUMN! I urge you to make this salad part of your Thanksgiving. It will become a family favorite!
