You’ve undoubtedly heard of Carolina Barbeque and Texas BBQ but have you ever tried Santa Maria Barbeque? Unlike the aforementioned styles, Santa Maria Barbeque doesn’t involve a long, slow cooking method or sweet sauces, but is instead a menu featuring a well-seasoned California tri-tip cooked over native red oak coals on a special hand-cranked grill, accompanied by pinquinto beans, salsa, green salad, and garlic bread.

As a taco fanatic and descendant of several West Texas cattle ranchers, it was initially quite difficult for me to warm to the idea of vegetarian tacos. But after exhaustive research (aka eating), I am totally hooked. Consider these tacos as inspiration for your Meatless Mondays and Taco Tuesdays.

If hard pressed, I would have to settle on tacos as my Last Supper. So, you can imagine my delight at hearing that for an entire month the B-Team is devoting it’s attentions to this noble Mexican delicacy.

As Indian Summer sets up camp for a few weeks in the Bay Area, my instinct to eat as many tomatoes, melons and stone fruits runs high. To further help this cause, I head directly to Contigo, arguably one of San Francisco's best Spanish restaurants owned by Brett and Elan Emerson. Their menu, billed as “love letter to Spain” features rustic dishes inspired by the vivid flavors of Barcelona. Everything is cooked from scratch using products from local farmers, ranchers and fishmongers.

To kick off Mediterranean month at the B-Team, I’d like to offer you a cocktail, an Ouzo cocktail that is. Ouzo, a Greek spirit distilled from grapes and flavored with anise, is typically served as an aperitif and lends itself well to sipping straight, on the rocks, or my favorite, as a cocktail. If you're fan of anything remotely liquorice or fennel - this should be your next drink!

One of the many benefits of living in California is a vast wealth of superb local wines. Does this make up for the insane state tax rate? Prrobably not, but at the very least you can easily drown your sorrows in a delicious Cabernet.

Is it Bobby's delicious new Mediterranean-inspired restaurant, GATO, that has me in the mood or is it the blazing summer heat that has me craving one of my favorite cocktails, SANGRIA? Perhaps it is both! The B-Team is celebrating all things grilling this month and what better drink to serve at an outdoor party than fruity, colorful, refreshing sangria.

Charlotte March here, reporting from the West Coast with good news for sweet fiends! Now you can enjoy ice cream and the benefits of eating your daily requirement of vegetables at very the same time; or at least that’s what I told myself as I plowed through my second scoop of Humphrey Slocombe's fennel and brown sugar ice cream.
