Bar Americain's Ginger Reposado

1 cup water
1 cup granulated sugar
2 –inch piece fresh ginger, peeled and coarsely chopped
3 tablespoons superfine sugar
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
2 ounces Chinaco reposado tequila
1 ounce fresh lemon juice
¾ ounce ginger syrup
Pinch of nutmeg/sugar mixture
Ice cubes
Lemon twist, for garnish

1. Bring sugar, water and ginger to a boil in a small saucepan and cook until the sugar melts. Remove from heat and let cool to room temperature. Remove ginger. Mixture can be stored in a covered container in the refrigerator for 2 weeks. 
2. Stir together the sugar and nutmeg in a small shallow bowl. 
3. Combine the tequila, lemon syrup, ginger syrup, a pinch of the nutmeg/sugar mixture and ice cubes in a cocktail shaker and shake for 10 seconds. Moisten the rim of a martini glass with some lemon juice and dip in the sugar/nutmeg mixture. Strain the drink into a chilled martini glass and garnish with a lemon twist.
