Bobby + Nacho’s Winter Chai Citrus Punch

On December 15th at 8pm Eastern, Bobby and Nacho Flay are getting together for a festive holiday-themed Instagram Live to celebrate a successful year launching Made by Nacho – a chef-driven, cat-crafted cat food founded by them! On Instagram Live, Bobby is making a festive punch for himself, and created a Catini cocktail to serve for Nacho and Stella (using all Made by Nacho ingredients of course). You’ll have to ask Nacho for that Catini recipe… but keep scrolling for the delicious bourbon-based winter punch recipe from this event.

Winter Chai Citrus Punch

Serves 12

 

4 cups strong chai tea, freshly brewed (8 chai tea bags steeped for at least 10 minutes in boiling water)

4 cinnamon sticks

6 star anise pods

1 ½ cups honey

1 ½ cups fresh lemon juice

1 cup fresh orange juice

8 dashes orange bitters

3 cups bourbon

1 bottle Prosecco, chilled

Ice ring, optional for garnish, see below

Additional fresh and/ or dried orange wheels, for garnish

Additional cinnamon sticks, for garnish

Additional star anise, for garnish

 

1    Pour the freshly brewed, hot tea in to a heat proof bowl or pitcher. Add the cinnamon sticks, star anise and honey and stir until honey fully melted and combined. Chill until completely cold. This can be done up to a day in advance.

2  Once fully chilled, add in the lemon juice, orange juice, bitters, bourbon and stir to combine. If serving in a punch bowl, transfer contents to a punch bowl.

3  Add the Prosecco to top it off. If adding an ice ring, top with ice ring and follow with the other garnishes. Ladle into glasses and serve.

 

TO MAKE AN ICE RING, add whatever garnishes are preferred to a bundt pan and cover with water. Carefully transfer the filled bundt pan to the freezer and freeze for approximately 6 hours or longer until completely frozen and set up. Unmold ice ring and transfer it to your filled punch bowl.

Winter Chai Citrus Punch Cocktail

Serves 2-4

Here’s a recipe for the same cocktail, but in a smaller batch… in case you’re not planning to serve a crowd! Cheers.

 

1 cup strong chai tea, freshly brewed (2 chai tea bags steeped for at least 10 minutes in boiling water)

1 cinnamon stick

2 star anise pods

1/3 cup honey

1/3 cup fresh lemon juice

1/4 cup fresh orange juice

2 dashes orange bitters

¾ cup bourbon

1  split sized bottle Prosecco, chilled

 

Additional fresh and/or dried orange wheels, for garnish

Additional cinnamon sticks, for garnish

Additional star anise, for garnish

 

1  Pour the freshly brewed, hot tea in to a small heat proof bowl or pitcher. Add the cinnamon stick star anise and honey and stir until honey fully melted and combined. Chill until completely cold. This can be done up to a day in advance.

2  Once fully chilled, add in the lemon juice, orange juice, bitters, bourbon and stir to combine.

3  Pour into coupe or rocks style glasses, leaving room to top with Prosecco and garnishes. Add the Prosecco and the chosen garnishes and serve.
